For my irony paper, I wish to write an ironic editorial concerning the use of steroids/performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) by professional athletes. Throughout the article, the opinionative voice will be coming from a middle-aged man who has, and still follows all the major American sports. Personally, I am against the use of performance enhancing drugs; especially in the professional level. Contradicting my beliefs, in the editorial the man will argue for the legalization of performance enhancing drugs for professional athletes. Part of his argument will be centered around the belief that PEDs will not create and unfair playing advantage. This is because if all athletes use an equal amount of PEDs, it will result in a personal advantage of each player's skills rising in a ratio comparable to all the other players. A reason to legalize PEDs is to advance the plays and unnatural abilities of the players. With more big plays and exciting rivalries, PEDs will benefit the spectator's enjoyment and progression of sports. A current issue that has been discussed in many sports-related discussions is injuries, especially concussions. One may ponder about how PEDs increase players' strength and speed, resulting in a higher level of injuries. However, one must discuss with another to realize that players getting hit, tugged, and romped on will have larger muscles, more stamina, and their own power to challenge their opposition. Based from both the offensive and defensive players will have taken PEDs to equally advance themselves, then they will not suffer more injuries. In the end, PEDs may more highly promote muscles used mainly for defense and lessen the amount of injuries.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony paper I am going to write about why smoking is good. I chose to write about this issue since there are many people that smoke a lot each and every day and there are multiple diseases that come along with smoking as well, so I thought that writing this paper through a smoker's perspective would be interesting. In my opinion, I feel that smoking is definitely not a sane thing to do since you are just destroying your own body and you are aware of it. The real meaning behind this irony paper is that it's going to make you realize that smoking has many negative aspects than there are positive. In the paper, the perspective I will be writing from will be from an old man who has been smoking since he was quite young. I will mention all the good things about smoking but I will also mention the negative ones as well and I will make the negative things sound even worse. This way, when you are done reading the paper, you will feel that smoking is the worst thing to ever even think of doing.
ReplyDeleteThere are many people with fatal illnesses that cannot be cured. Using the perspective of a health fanatic, I would try to show that these individuals should be allowed to die off. In an ironic way I would argue that this is the only way to save humanity. Also that by allowing these ones to die off we will be protecting the children. Using this perspective I will give statistics of the amount of people who are sick compared to that of the human population and show that by allowing these ones to die off the human population will be greatly reduced. I will also argue that by allowing these ones to die off the best of humanity will finally be revealed. After stating all these points I will suggest that all over the world everyone should be tested for all illneses that cannot be cured. Those who have such illnesses will die in 24 hours. While those with very contagious illnesses will die on sight. By using this perspective the reader will see that those with fatal illnesses should be given a chance to live.
ReplyDeleteThe topic I chose to do for my irony essay is on the death penalty. Since this is a social issue my essay will include the serious views of people who are against my opinion. Personally I agree with the death penalty. I think those who have committed serious crimes should be put to death. Opposers would say that no one deserves to die, but the victims of a serial killer did not deserve to die either. For example, what if a person kidnaps and kills ten people. Imagine all the pain and suffering their families and the people they care about have been put through. Wouldn’t you agree that the killer should have to pay for all the evil they have done. Keep in mind that the killer knows the consequences of their actions. The death penalty is there as a warning to show that those who commit severe crimes will be punished. Those who over look the warning and continue causing harm will be put to death. In my essay I will be using the views of someone who opposes the death penalty. To persuade the reader to agree with my original opinion I will use examples of horrific crimes of those who will never be put to death for what they did. Hopefully I can put a grotesque image in the readers head to make them agree with my opinion.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony paper I plan to write about the death penalty. Using the perspective of an anti-death penalty person, I will argue that the death penalty and all forms of capital punishment should be abolished. In an ironic manner, I will try to show my personal opinions about supporting the death penalty. Some points I will use to argue my topic are that the government has no right to take away a human life. I will support this by talking about how it targets people of specific races and those who can't afford a proper attorney. In my essay, I will also add that it is very expensive and hurting us economically. After I bring up all these points, I will add that a life sentence is often a more effective form of punishment and that the death penalty doesn't really solve anything. By stating these opinions in a ironic or "mocking" way, the reader will be pro death penalty by the end of the essay.
ReplyDeleteThe social problem I have chosen to discuss is gay marriage rights. Personally I believe any two people who love each other should have the right to be married no matter what their sexual preference is. It is not right to deny two people the right to marry just because it is not the "traditional" way. People think just because it is different it is wrong. I will be writing this essay through the mind of a businessman. This is because men are typically less compassionate than woman. They view things differently and sometimes are more judgmental. Businessmen are also thought of to be more powerful, and to have a sense of control. My character believes he has power to change society to what he believes is "right". My character thinks being gay is something you can snap your fingers and change. He has many ideas on how society should go about changing this. Some of his ideas even involve oracles and lead to violence. He is very dogmatic and believes everyone should think the way he does. I plan to open with a bold statement to portray my characters views on gay marriage. This is to vex the readers who oppose his words and relate to the readers who agree. Following, I plan on explaining the reasons in which gay marriage is "wrong". Also ways in which to prevent the "epidemic" from spreading and "corrupting our future". I also plan on my character evaluating a pro-gay marriage speech and explaining his opposing points of the speech.
ReplyDeleteI am planning to write my irony paper on the topic of drunk driving. I am really against drunk driving. Many people are killed or severely injured each year resulting from people driving while drunk. Drunk driving is horrible and can be prevented. I am going to write my irony paper like the example from the irony paper we got in class written by Tom Slaznick. During this paper I will give examples of why drunk driving is bad and the consequences resulting from driving drunk but mostly I will give examples of why it is good. The examples I give will seem like benefits of drunk driving. After reading my paper the reader will hopefully agree with my opinion and agree that nothing good comes from driving drunk.
ReplyDeleteThe subject that I will be exploring through irony and social misconception is feminism. Feminism is a widely misunderstood topic that should be brought to light. Many people misunderstand that feminism is the equality of all genders rather than the "women are better than men" view that it mainly perceives. Furthermore, many people who say they are feminists do not support what should supported to the full extent, which can be found in many examples of everyday life. I will be writing from the point of a misogynist or someone who hates women or anti-feminism. They believe that men are superior to women, or any other gender for that matter. Saying statements such as "I believe there should be equality, but women shouldn't be able to expose as much skin as men without being labeled." I will also be exploring issues within the government and socially regarding feminism, such as women receiving less pay than men and rape. I hope that writings such as mine, and every day movements will allow feminism to be achieved so then not only America, but the world can be the fair and safe place that it should be.
ReplyDeleteI am writing my paper on obesity. Obesity is an awful eating disorder in which someone binge eats to an extreme extent. In my opinion, you should eat to live, not live to eat. I would like to go about this paper by having a mocking tone and trying to bring out all the negative things that come with having obesity. I will be portraying myself as a middle aged obese man. To begin my paper, the obese man will be sitting on a couch eating a bag of chips thinking he is living his life to the fullest. Throughout my paper, I will explain all the symptoms and limitations that obesity carries. After reading my paper, nobody will want to ever be obese. It will disturb most healthy human beings and motivate them to maintain their fit lifestyle. On the other hand, for obese people, it would hopefully make them want to make a difference in their lives. People that are obese don't realize how much they could be doing and how much fun they could be having with others. Living a life extremely overweight literally and figuratively weighs you down and you are stuck with struggling to get through your everyday necessities. This is what I would like to explain in my irony paper.

The social problem of bullying is when people judge other people for the way they look, personality, races, gender, sexual orientation, religions, people with disabilities, people with bad temper, and lastly an embarrassing event that had happened to people. My opinion of bullying is that I’m against bullying because it’s not right to judge other people if you don’t know them that well. It’s like you can’t judge a book by its cover. The voice that I will be adopting to ironically mock the opposing positions viewpoint is pro bullying. Pro bullying is someone who isn’t against bullying. It’s going to be difficult to be the bully because I have not bullied anyone in my life before. I will structure my argument as an opinion piece because it’s easier to state my opinion rather than a speech or a mock letter to the editor. My argument will begin with how people judge each other and it will end with a solution that helps the bullies to stop bullying other people.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony paper, I will be discussing the actions of Miley Cyrus. Miley Cyrus has been a huge topic in America for the last year or so. Miley Cyrus has been known for her popular TV show Hannah Montana. She was the star role of this TV show throughout her teenage year. Once she grew up she slowly decided to become known as an adult. The actions she has made got people to talk. People have turned totally against Miley Cyrus. Many people that have not been happy with Miley’s lifestyle are the parents of young children who used to look up to “Hannah Montana”. I chose to write as if I was viewing the situation as a parent. I chose to speak as a parent because I support Miley Cyrus. I may not support all of her actions, but I do support her reasoning and beliefs. She does what she does to prove to people that she is unique and that she doesn’t care about what other people think. I like the fact that she is an independent woman that doesn’t care about people’s opinions. The way I decided to structure my essay is in a letter formation. I am going to pretend to be an angry mother that is writing to her agent. I hope to explain the view of Miley Cyrus as if I was an outraged parent that believes that Miley is ruining the younger generation by influencing them to doing bad things. I am very excited to write my first irony paper because they involve topic that I enjoy write/talk about.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony paper I will be writing about obesity and why it is a good thing. The perspective of the paper will be about someone who is very obese. The person will be a guy who feels being this fat is great and it's no problem for him. I feel that being obese is very unhealthy and very bad for you mentally and physically so in my paper I will write about how the person loves being fat and lazy for various reasons. I will try putting some humor into it as much as I can. When the reader is done reading this I hope they feel like eating very healthy and taking care of their bodies mentally and physically.

ReplyDeleteI am discussing in an ironic fashion the social topic of the death penalty. I feel like it is a problem because I feel that no one has the right to take someone's life, even if it is justifiable. I think we should lock them up alone forever, which is much worse than death. I can argue to severe lengths the badness of capital punishment, as it is both more costly and unethical. What stops us from killing mass murderers, then murderers, then rapists, then assaulters, then DUI's. then double parkers? it is a spiral set up by the man, and I'm going to bring it down.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony paper I'm going to write about kids' obsession with cell phones and technology. I will be taking the voice of a teen addicted to using technology, trying to convince the reader that it is not addictive. Teenagers have become obsessed with iphones, video games, and social media so I chose this topic to display its harmful affects. I will be using the format of an opinion paper and express the problems of technology in our world today. To start out my paper I will first persuade the reader that most teenagers are not addicted to technology. Once I have convinced them of this I will talk about how I played candy crush for three hours until I beat my high score, and how I was up all night playing the newest video game. Then I will persuade the reader that cell phones can be useful for school purposes. I will talk about how iphones are great for homework help, and then mention that they are especially useful for help during a test. I may also include something about how social media such as Facebook and Twitter does not cause drama, and then explain a fight that the teen recently saw on the network. In my opinion technology does a lot of wonderful things by connecting people and improving the science field. However, there is a major issue with youth overusing the technology. By writing this I hope to convince the reader that an over obsession with technology is not only unhealthy, but very obnoxious.

I will be arguing points of creating a superior race, and how fascism is one of the greater ideas of the world. While my opinion obviously stands against fascism, and believing that there is no superior race. Whilst I will continue arguing that the only way to fix the economy is to begin slaughtering cities due to the fact that they are of a certain race that is different from the “superior race”. It will be filled with ignorance and unintelligent statements from the Nazi that I have named Bill.
ReplyDeleteMy irony paper is going to be discussing the topic of abortion. Abortion is a very contraversial topic and it can be veiwed from two differnt sides. Personally I don't support abortion I believe that you are killing a human being even though they have not actually been born yet. For my irony paper, however, i will write from the side of someone who supports this matter. My paper will bean opinion peice. Throughout the paper I will give examples of why abortion should be legal and the benefits of it, but in a way that the reader will see how harmful and unhumane it really is.
ReplyDeleteI am going to be writing my paper on animal rights. I beleive that too many animals are treated poorly and deserve alot better. In my paper I will talk about animal abuse, neglection, and zoos. I am completly against all three but since it is an irony paper my charecter is all for it. With zoos for example I dont think its right.to take animals from their home and family to lock them in a cage. Some people believe its ok because its entertainment for humans and cam teach humans how the animals go about life. My essay will be written as and article on animal rights and will become more extreme as it goes.
ReplyDeleteFor my irony paper I will be arguing about smoking marijuana. I am personally against it completely. Nobody should inhale anything to make them feel better or get them out of their natural state of mind. There are always big debates about how parents would rather have their child smoke marijuana than cigarettes, or drink alcohol than smoke marijuana. “It’s only a plant” most people would say. Marijuana is still a drug and it still effects you in a negative way. I will be writing this paper in the perspective of a middle school student who smokes weed all the way through adulthood. My plan is to agree with smoking marijuana so much that it will actually start to sound sickening. I will talk about how pot smoking can effect your body and what it makes you feel like. The format that I will use is going to be closer to an opinion piece. Hopefully the readers of my paper will understand that smoking marijuana is not healthy for the body at all.

My real views on abortion is that it is okay and something people should be able to do with out being criticized for it, but I will be writing my paper in the point of view of a person who thinks that abortion is wrong and should be illegal. My paper will be a opinion piece from the view of someone who is against abortion. My paper will tell how in some situations it may be hard to have the baby then not having it, hopefully I can show the reader that in some cases it might be okay, even though a lot of people don't think so.
ReplyDeleteIn my Irony paper I will be asserting my position that smoking in public places should not be allowed. I will take the position of somebody who does smoke and is completely oblivious to the effect it has on others around them. I will make this person sound not very intellectual so the reader can understand the points he has are not logical and should not be listened to or agreed with. I feel as though smoking in public places should be controlled by the owner of the place it is happening in. The government should not have control over this especially if they are going to heavily tax the product. I do not understand why people smoke because I must be too blind to see the positives it brings. I researched others opinions on blogs to see how normal people react to the question if smoking in public places should be allowed. Numerous people had the same view as me, that secondhand smoke is harmful and should not be forced around others. There are obviously much more that goes into this problem than just that. The web site I used for my information works well because it sorts between people who agree with the statement it is wrong to smoke in public places and people who do not agree. I am not sure yet as to how I want to approach the paper. I am debating between a letter to the editor and a speech format. The affects of smoking should not be forced on to others is the main point I will be emphasizing.

My actual view on abortion is that if you have a very good reason to have one, such as you were raped or not finically fit so the baby would be better off not born, the you should have the right to get one. The view of my paper will be from a regular middle class religious man that is against it. The points I will make will be things such as God hates people that have abortions and you will go to Hell if you have one. Reasons that are not religious are things such as it hurts your body and the baby feels the pain. My paper will make small hints of what my actual opinion is as the paper goes along though.
ReplyDeleteFor my topic for the irony paper i chose whether children should have to receive vaccines in order to attend public schools. This is a very controversial topic, because some people believe that you shouldn't have to get the proper vaccines to attend public schools. My opinion on this situation is that you should have to receive vaccines in order to attend public schools. I believe this,because not only does it protect the child from all of the harmful germs at schools, but it protects others if you were to get an illness and pass it on. For my essay I will be writing from the point of view of someone who is against children getting any type of vaccine and doesn't think that it should be required to attend school. Im going to write my paper in the form of an opinion piece. In order to make this an irony paper, I have to write from the point of view of someone who believes the complete opposite. Im planning on starting the essay saying how it is fine to just let children fight off terrible illnesses that can be fatal and spreading them throughout the public schools. Also, one of the “arguments” ill put forth is saying vaccines can cause defects such as autism. Also, that the government should have no right to make decisions on how to maintain health. Ill end my case by saying disease is not one of the main reasons for death and that vaccines can cause brain damage making a child stupid which is an extreme argument that makes no sense and causes you to believe the complete opposite.

Now in real life as myself, I am against smoking cigarettes where as in this essay i will be writing from the point of view of someone who does approve of smoking cigarettes. Now its not just smoking in public places but just smoking them in general. I believe that smoking cigarettes should be illegal just as marijuana is. But again for the purpose of this essay i will be pointing out things like the government shouldn't have a say in state smoking laws and that they have already raised the price so much so just leave us alone. It may be hard to find people and articles that support smoking but i found a website that argues both sides which is very helpful for this assignment
